Summary: This movie plays out the Chaos Theory among the lives of several people in a neighborhood in Los Angeles.
One of the questions related to the Chaos Theory is whether the flapping of a butterfly’s wings can cause a chain of events that lead to a tornado. This is called the “butterfly effect”, and indeed, a movie starring the lightweight Ashton Kuchner titled as such has been released. This movie is nothing like Kuchner’s movie; it does a better job of exploring the “butterfly effect” in a cinematic role.
The movie starts when a young child squashed a bug on a sidewalk. A man sees this and crosses the street to chide the young boy for needlessly killing a life. This leads to a chain of events that cause some small and some significant changes in the lives of various residents of a particular LA neighborhood. These changes lead to more changes and a chain of events that could possibly cause a disaster that kills many people. I won’t spoil the movie and tell you how it ended. But I will say that this movie is a gem because it links the most trivial occurrences of someone’s life to something more critical. You get the message that an individual seemingly lost among an urban multitude can actually make a big difference in a positive way in the world by his/her actions. Things ranging from being friendly to a stranger, controlling your temper, and not taking one’s stress on someone else can make a big difference to tomorrow’s outcome.
Why you should or should not see this movie:
You should see this movie because it is a gem of a movie that’s relatively unknown because of low publicity. It requires the viewer to be engrossed in the film because the pacing of the movie quickly moves from event to event, showing the changes that the previous event has caused. It would be easy to get lost and if the viewer doesn’t watch the movie from beginning to end, it would not make sense. Still, this one is worth the effort.
